Definition of asthma
Asthma is known as the Shwassa which means breath. It means all disorders characterized by abnormal breathing (shortness of breath and occasional heart included). The uniqueness of Ayurveda is to treat the disorder from the region around the navel (intestines) and not the lungs.

Etiology
Environmental:

Junk food, sesame oil (taken internally by), starch (potatoes, peas), yoghurt, cheese, chocolate, ice cream and pudding, pastries, banana
Food creating constipation and fermentation
Dry food, heavy, strongly increasing Kapha
Meat (excluding white meat), fish and crustaceans
Symptomatic
Ama (mixed with doshas as samavayou, samapitta, samakapha)
Flatulence
Drought internal body (mucous and liquid lubricants insufficient)
Excessive weight loss
Weakness and related diseases (eg - anemia, tuberculosis ...)
Injury to a vital point and injuries
Diarrhea, fever, vomiting, sinusitis, chest injury, hemorrhage, gastro-intestinal, cholera, intestinal laziness, poison, constipation, infection of the throat

Cough long and tiring taking all the energy of suffering
Light relief at the removal of mucus
